Book a Load Plant a Tree Update

This week our marketing director Mark Bortolotti met with Shelley MaKay from Forests Ontario. Thompson Emergency Freight Systems is proud to partner with Forests Ontario through our Book a Load Plant a Tree program. Every load you book with us we plant a tree! Through this program Thompson has helped plant thousands of trees in an effort to reduce our eco-footprint. Thank you to all our customers that made this possible.

Thompson Emergency leading the way…our Commercial Fleet is now running Electronic Logs (ELD).

Thompson Emergency leading the way…our Commercial Fleet is now running Electronic Logs (ELD).

You have likely heard all about the government’s plan to mandate ELD’s and perhaps you were expecting it to be overturned (shipping as usual), however in June the US Supreme Court made it official. In the final hearing of the Owner-Operator Independent Driver Association’s Lawsuit the high court officially rejected and denied their appeal against the ELD mandate. Therefore making the official instillation requirement date December 18th 2017.  Yes, it’s really happening, in 5 short months all commercial driving vehicles operating in the United States legally will require an ELD (which is connected to their truck and enforces/tracks Drivers’ compliance to the Hours of Service regulations).

The ELD mandate is a major change to commercial transportation, which is expected to reduce the capacity of commercial fleets (in particular On-Demand Expedite).

Many carriers will wait till the last minute to implement ELD’s (fearing lost revenue and Driver attrition), however as a Tier-1 Supplier to major automobile manufactures Thompson Emergency decided years ago to be proactive and embrace change, in order to insure our Customers continue to receive the best transportation service. After 18-months of researching and testing ELD systems, Thompson settled on the top of the line XRS- Omnitracs ELD software (which is seamlessly integrated & tracked by our Operations Team).  We proudly inform you that ELD hardware is now installed in all our commercial vehicles and your on-demand Expedite loads are now being dispatched using our ELD software. In short, trust Thompson to cover your urgent shipments; On Time and On Budget.

Looking down the road to next January, when ELD’s are regulated by the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) officers begin enforcing their use, you will likely see a reduction in Expedite carriers’ ability to meet your urgent shipping needs. We invite you to contact Thompson Emergency, as we uniquely provide the 24-7 solutions you require;

  • Our 3-skid van fleet is the largest in Canada and is not associated with the ELD mandate.
  • As is the case with the entire Thompson Fleet, all Drivers are FAST approved by US Homeland Security and Canada Customs, to ensure hassle free border crossing.

  • Exclusive to Thompson Customers only, if you expect to Expedite in the future and require a Commercial Vehicle (24’ Straight Truck or 53’ Tractor), simply reserve it using our “Will Call” service.
  • Early on the day you expected to Expedite, our Operations Team will call to confirm the load (if you don’t need the truck, we simply cancel the load…at no cost to you).

For 32-years Thompson Emergency has offered award winning expedite service. We are ready for and embrace the new ELD mandate (which is intended to keep our roadways safe).
